talents and achievements
of Scots at home and abroad at the
16th Annual
Scot of the Year Award Presentation
on
Thursday April 3rd, 2008
from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Horizons Café
at the top of Toronto's CN Tower
301 Front Street West
On Thursday April 3rd, 2008 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Toronto's iconic landmark, the CN Tower, will be the venue for this year's Tartan Day and our 16th Annual Scot of the Year Award Presentation.
This event will be sponsored by HBOS Canada and is being hosted by the Scottish Government in conjunction with Scottish Development International
(www.sdi.co.uk).
As a showcase of modern Scotland's key strengths in knowledge, skills, technology and innovation, we are delighted to have been invited to participate in this event which will also be a fundraiser for The Scottish Studies Foundation.
Caledon, Scotland's Tenors will be performing at the event
As part of a programme of Scotland Week events across North America that recognize Tartan Day, this event sets out to be a great celebration of Scotland's business and cultural ties with Canada. Set against the magnificent backdrop of the Toronto skyline, highlights on the night will include fabulous food, entertainment by Caledon, Scotland's Tenors and the all-female trio Scotlandia , as well as a rousing address by Scottish Government Minister Linda Fabiani, MSP, Minister for Europe, External Affairs and Culture who will present Scottish Studies Society's 16th annual 'Scot of the Year' in Canada award.
This award was initiated in 1993 to honour individuals with a Scottish connection who have achieved distinction through their contribution to Canadian society or the international community at large. This year's recipient will be Donald Stewart, President and CEO of Sun Life Financial Inc.
We are also delighted that Robert Winter, the Rt. Hon. The Lord Provost of Glasgow will be attending the event.
Unlike previous Tartan Day Dinners there will be no entrance fee so in lieu of this we have set an objective of raising $15,000 during the evening to support the Foundation in the funding of the Chair of Scottish Studies at the University of Guelph, the acquisition of significant materials for their library and bursaries for Canadian students studying in Scotland.
We do hope you will be able to join us for this memorable evening and make a contribution to our cause. As the Scottish Studies Foundation is a registered Canadian Charity all contributions are tax deductible and appropriate tax receipts will be issued for each donation.
The venue at the CN Tower is limited to approximately 250 guests so if you would like to attend this function, please contact Isobel Bell as soon as possible by telephone at 630-968-6799 or by e-mail at isobel.bell@scotent.co.uk.
Please check this website as we get closer to April 3 for up-to-date information. We look forward to seeing as many of our supporters as possible at the event.
