Michael Enright
Douglas Gibson
Luke Skipper
The Sunday Edition is a lively two-hour program of conversation, documentaries and music with host Michael Enright, an accomplished journalist and broadcaster who tackles everything from politics to pop culture in Canada and around the world. The program's interests are as varied as the average listener's. Michael thrives on debate and ideas and each program begins with his own thoughts on anything from Canada-U.S. relations to his problems with SUVs.
In this excerpt from the show aired on January 22, 2012, Michael talks Scottish nationalism with a Scot who left for Canada, and a Canuck who left for Scotland.
British Prime Minister David Cameron is not King Edward the First, and Scottish Nationalist Party leader Alex Salmond is definitely not William Wallace, but they have been trading some nasty barbs this week. Scottish nationalism is front and centre in the United Kingdom again after Salmond's promise that there will be a sovereignty referendum in 2014.
Douglas Gibson is the publisher of Douglas Gibson Books and the former president and publisher of McClelland and Stewart. He was born in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. In 2005, he was named Canada's "Scot of the Year" by the Scottish Studies Society. Douglas serves on the Board of Directors of the Scottish Studies Foundation.
Luke Skipper is from the town of Kincardine, Ontario. He moved to Scotland as a young man, and is now the Chief of Staff for the Scottish National Party at Westminster and a passionate proponent of Scottish sovereignty.
