Dear Burns Lovers,

As we fast approach “The Year of the Homecoming” in Scotland 2009, a year marking the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns’ birth, we welcome you to share and celebrate with us our seventh annual Burns Supper at the Granite Club on the Bard’s birthday, Friday, January 25, 2008.

Many may not be aware that the Granite Club was conceived at a Burns Supper (stag in those far-off days) at a hotel in downtown Yonge, the Rising Sun, over 130 years ago, an added incentive for you to join us for a highly entertaining evening in the majestic ambience of the Granite Club’s Grand Ballroom, where some 400 guests will assemble for the unique evening.

If you are a regular attendee, welcome once again. If not, it’s time that you found out what you’ve been missing all these years. Read on while we briefly outline the evening which starts at 6 p.m. and ends around 11:30 p.m.
  • A Scottish feast fit for a King and Queen
  • An illustrious “Address to the Haggis: by Lachlan Hamilton with the possibility of an English translation
  • The exuberant feet-stomping music of the pipes and drums of the 48th Highlanders under the direction of Pipe Major Ian Lang
  • The sprightly fiddling of our talented and vivacious violinist Stefanie
  • Dynamic singing from own very own tenors, David Campbell and Malcolm Sinclair
  • A whisky-nosing contest with prizes of Scotch, courtesy of Ian Bain of William Grant & Sons Ltd.
  • Dancing to the pipes and drums of the 48th
  • A soupcon of Scottish humour
  • Free Scottish Country dance lessons for three Saturdays in January, prior to the event
  • And, of course, not forgetting the traditional addresses and toasts: The Immortal Memory, The Lassies and The Response/Rebuttal
  • And $10 of your ticket price is donated to the Scottish Studies Foundation charity

Be sure to book early to guarantee your places for this memorable evening honouring the Bard.

Yours aye,

Gordon Hepburn
