Join us as we celebrate the Ulster Scots and their legacy. Dr. James Floyd, of Heriot-Watt University and the Heraldry Society of Scotland, will give the keynote address, titled, “Ulster Scots: their heraldic connections.”
Professor Floyd recently retired as District Geologist with the British Geological Survey in Edinburgh and has wide experience of the geology of many areas of the world and is particularly interested in the historical use of local stone in vernacular architecture. In 2007 he was awarded an honorary professorship in the School of the Built Environment at Heriot-Watt University for his research on architectural heraldry in Scotland.
He has had a life-long interest in Scottish heraldry and genealogy and has been the Editor of the Heraldry Society of Scotland for the past 5 years, as well as editing the Proceedings of the 27th International Congress of Genealogical and Heraldic Sciences held in St Andrews in 2006.
A graduate of Glasgow, St Andrews and Heriot-Watt universities, he was awarded a prestigious Zibby Garnett Fellowship in 2007 to conduct conservation work on architectural heraldry in Valletta with Heritage Malta. His current research project is the compilation of the Gazetteer of Architectural Heraldry in Scotland.
He is married, with a Canadian wife and three sons, one of whom lives and works in Canada.

• Mr. Daniel Macleod (University of Guelph), The Scottish Catholic Church in the Reformation Period.
Doors Open at 10.30 am....Talk starts at 11am...Lunch at 12.30 p.m.
The Colloquium includes the Annual General Meeting of the Scottish Studies Foundation - all members are invited to attend. The audited accounts will be ready for publication at this time.
Registration: $25 for members of the Foundation, $30 for non-members (payable to the 'University of Guelph'). Lunch and coffee included!
